Custom Display Boxes That Work the Counter

Paperboard countertop display boxes are compact, point of purchase displays designed to merchandise products directly from the box.

Typically positioned at registers or other high-traffic locations, they’re designed so that when opened, the tuck top folds into a pop-up header for advertising, while the base holds the product for easy access.

Where They Shine

These retail display boxes are most often positioned near the point of sale, where customers are making final purchase decisions. The pop-up header draws attention to the products inside, prompting impulse buys in the last moments before checkout.

They’re commonly used for packaged food, personal care items, small electronics accessories, and other merchandise that sells well in this setting. The footprint is typically wider than it is deep, giving customers a clear view of the products while taking up minimal counter space.

How to measure for a custom product box

4 Easy Steps to Measure ANY Box

Getting the dimensions right is critical to getting accurate sizes and costs. Length x Width X Depth refer to the inside of the box. The key to getting dimensions right is determining how the product slides into the box - this will always be the depth.

1. Determine the slide direction:
Find the slide direction first - this will be the depth of the box.

2. Measure the Length:
With the opening facing you, measure the longest side (left to right).

3. Measure the Width:

Measure the shorter side (front to back), still with the box facing you.

4. Add a Little Extra:
Add about 1/16" to each measurement so your box isn’t too tight—this makes packing much easier.

Choosing the Right Style

The base style of a countertop display box can vary, and the right choice depends on the shape, size, and presentation needs of your product. Each style has its advantages:

  • Roll End Tuck Top POPs – Ideal for wider footprints with a shallow product area      (often 3–4 inches deep). The double-walled sides give the box a rigid,      premium look, and the flat inside bottom creates a smooth, even floor for      the product.

  • Auto Lock Bottom POPs – Designed for deeper displays and quick assembly. The      glued base locks into place when the box is opened, making setup fast and      ensuring stability in busy retail environments.

  • Snap Lock Bottom POPs – A cost-effective choice for deeper displays that don’t      require the extra strength or speed of an auto lock. These are well-suited      for lighter merchandise and offer flexibility for a range of product      categories.

Cell dividers which have a criss-cross pattern, and  box divider inserts can be added to any of these styles to keep products separated and neatly organized.

Key Benefits of Countertop Display Boxes

Countertop display boxes are a great way to make your products visible and easily accessible.

Here are some of the main advantages:

  • Keeps products front and center – Positioned at the point of sale where      customers are ready to buy.

  • Draws attention with a pop-up header – Built-in space for branding, product      details, or promotional messaging.

  • Fits the product, not the other way around – Multiple countertop display box styles, including roll end tuck top, auto lock bottom, and snap lock bottom POPs, to suit different shapes, sizes, and depths.

  • Compact footprint – Uses minimal retail counter space while keeping products      highly visible.

  • Organized and professional – Optional cell dividers or box inserts keep products      separated, neatly arranged, and easy for shoppers to access.
